JO Welch's life and career have been an exciting and educational journey. As a woman of color, 1st generation of Colombian Parents, She has experiences that are relevant and important in our evolving social justice and human kindness world. It would be an honor to bring this knowledge to your team. Consent, communication, collaboration is key. The partnership is critical.
The pandemic afforded an unexpected benefit when she transferred her interpreting business online. Interpreting work demographics shifted dramatically. At the moment of Mr. Floyd's murder, the importance and need for qualified Interpreters of Color nationwide grew. JO's practice saw a shift in teams of color to almost 75%+ of her work. She is engaged with mentorship with students of color and other marginalized communities. The jobs themselves also shifted to a larger percentage of social justice, DEI, anti-racism, brave safe content across marginalized communities.
JO Welch's Interpreter leadership has a strong focus on solutions to equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work and community. The priority is to increase our Interpreter of Color community. She has been a MCDHH State Screening Evaluator, as the only POC for almost 10 years and a member of RID Diversity Council.
